Cinema: people, collections, autofill from TMDB and Kinopoisk

People and collections attached to section entries, showcases, and filling a film card from TMDB or Kinopoisk on a button press. What to switch on, where the key goes, what is fetched, and whose rights apply to the texts and pictures.

Where: Own sections → People, Own sections → Collections and the “Fill from TMDB / Kinopoisk” panel in the entry editor. All of it works in ordinary sections (films, books, games, anything) and needs nothing connected: external sources stay off until you switch them on and enter a key.

People

  • A person (director, actor, composer, author…) has a page /r/persons/name: photo, bio, country, links and every entry where they are named. Add people in People by hand, or let autofill create them (as drafts).
  • The entry editor has a “People” panel: who to add and in what role. On the entry page this is the {persons} block (“Director / Cast” in a tag theme).
  • The list /r/persons can be sorted alphabetically or by popularity (by the number of published entries).
  • A person’s bio and country are translated into the site languages; people are found by the common search.

Collections

  • A collection is a hand-made list of entries (“Best of 2026”, “For tonight”): title, description, cover, status, entries from any sections. Page /r/collections/name and list /r/collections.
  • The entry editor has an “Add to collections” panel; the entry page has a {collections} block.
  • Closed or password-protected entries do not show in a public collection.

Showcases

A showcase is a row of cards on the home page or in a section: “Shelf” (a row of section entries), “Hero” (one entry, large), “List with icons”, “Popular people” and “Collection”. Create them in Own sections → Showcases.

Fill a film card: TMDB or Kinopoisk

Under the entry form there are autofill panels. They appear when the source is on and the section has suitable fields. The site asks the source only when you press the button, shows what would arrive and fills in only what you tick, and only into empty fields: “field — now — will become”.

SourceWhere to switch on, and the keyWhat is fetched
TMDBSettings → Own sections: your own TMDB key (free, at themoviedb.org)title, description, year, country, genres, length, poster, cast
Kinopoisk (kinopoisk.dev)Settings → Own sections: the “Kinopoisk” switch and your own kinopoisk.dev key. Off by defaulttitle and original title, year, description, slogan, country, genres, age rating, length, Kinopoisk and IMDb ratings with vote counts, budget and box office, trailer link, cast, poster and stills

The key is stored encrypted and never shown. Requests go from the site’s server only; the service receives the film title or number (for Kinopoisk — at api.kinopoisk.dev, an unofficial data service).

How to fill

  1. Open an entry, type a title, a Kinopoisk number (301), a link kinopoisk.ru/film/301/ or an IMDb number (tt0133093) and press “Check what will arrive”.
  2. Tick the fields to fill and press “Fill the ticked”; save the entry.
  3. Cast: tick people and press “Link the ticked to the entry”: existing people are matched by Kinopoisk or TMDB number, or by a single exact name; the rest are created as drafts; namesakes are never merged. The entry must be saved first.
  4. The poster and stills (up to six) are loaded into the media library by separate buttons with the source credited; the poster goes into an empty picture field, stills into a field of the “Gallery” kind.

Which fields are filled (by field name)

title, original_title, year, slogan, age, duration, country, genre, rating_kp, votes_kp, rating_imdb, votes_imdb, budget, fees, trailer, the picture cover, and the gallery (the first field of the “Gallery” kind). What the section lacks is skipped.

Tags in themes

In lists and cards of section entries: {item.rating_kp}, {item.votes_kp}, {item.rating_imdb}, {item.votes_imdb} — the values of the section fields with those names (empty if there is no such field). Other fields stay {item.field:name} and {item.fieldlabel:name}.

A new field kind in the section builder: several pictures from the media library (up to 24), chosen in a list window and shown on the entry page as a grid with the common viewer on click. Only public pictures can go in; the field is not shown in lists, cards or CSV export.

Trailer

The trailer link is saved in the trailer field (YouTube, Rutube, VK). The video is not downloaded. If the field kind embeds a platform player, the trailer plays on the page; otherwise it is shown as a link.

About rights

  • Texts, ratings, posters and stills belong to their rights holders; the data services give them to the key holder under their own terms. Read the TMDB and kinopoisk.dev terms and make sure your use fits them — commercial use especially.
  • Loaded pictures carry the source credit (“TMDB”, “Kinopoisk”); do not remove it.
  • Show the data source credit on your pages wherever the service terms ask for it.
