Our player for YouTube and Vimeo

Section: Admin → Settings → Player settings, the field “Our player for YouTube and Vimeo”. The “Video player” module is turned on in Add-ons → Modules. How to put a video into a post is on the page “Video and sound in a post”.

What it gives

A YouTube or Vimeo link put into a text plays inside our player: the same buttons, speed, seeking, resume and keys as for your own files. The clip stays the service’s: this is a wrapper around the official player and its programming interface, the service’s logo is not hidden, and we do not pull the video stream out.

Three values of the setting

• YouTube in our player — the default;
• YouTube and Vimeo in our player — some Vimeo clips still show their own buttons: the clip’s owner decides;
• Service’s own player — as before, our player is not connected.

The “Marketing” consent

The service’s script (YouTube or Vimeo) is connected only for visitors who allowed “Marketing” in the cookie banner, and only after they press the clip. Everyone else, after pressing “Watch”, gets the service’s own player; nothing is requested before. If the site has no cookie banner at all (you turned it off), connecting counts as allowed: that is the owner’s decision, the same as for the contacts map.

If the service does not answer

The script did not load, an ad blocker closed it or the wait ran out: the visitor quietly gets the service’s own player, and the block does not break.
