How to insert video and sound into a post

The simplest way: drag the file into the text

Open the post (news, page) and drag the file right into the text field — or press “Files” (the paperclip) above the field and choose a file on your computer. The site uploads it by itself and puts it into the text at the cursor: video as a video block, sound as a sound player. You do not need to go to “Media” for this.

• Video: mp4 or webm. Sound: mp3, ogg, opus, wav, m4a or flac. The type is checked by the file itself, not by its name.
• Video from YouTube and Vimeo is not uploaded: paste a link (below).

The “Video” and “Sound” buttons in the editor

• In the visual mode press “Video” or “Sound” on the bar above the text: a window opens. For video, paste a YouTube or Vimeo link, or press “Choose from the library” and pick an already uploaded clip; then “Insert”. The clip is put into the text at the cursor.
• In the “Markup” mode the same buttons insert a tag where the cursor is. The tags can also be typed by hand — they are below.
• A block with video loads nothing before it is pressed: your own file shows a cover, YouTube and Vimeo show a plate with the service name, and the page does not contact the service until the reader presses. This keeps the page fast and the reader’s privacy.

The track title for the list is added after a bar: [audio]/uploads/…/file.mp3|Title[/audio].

Sound is taken only from the uploads of this site (the path starts with /uploads/); a foreign address in [audio] is not accepted. In the text of visitors (comments, forum) only links to video services work, not numbers from “Media” — otherwise one could find out by trying numbers which clips lie in the library.

The track list

Several [audio] in a row are put together into one player with a list: with titles (after |), “previous” and “next” buttons, an automatic move to the next track, rewinding, speed and volume. The place where the listener stopped is remembered in their browser and does not go to the server. A single [audio] shows the same panel without a list. Without scripts an ordinary browser player stays.

What the video player can do

For clips from “Media” there is its own panel:

• pause and play, rewinding by ±10 seconds, a seek bar with a frame preview and chapter marks;
• volume, speed from 0.5× to 2×, subtitles, chapters;
• picture in picture, full screen, a mini player in the corner when the clip plays and the page is scrolled past it;
• a link “from this moment” (?t=), resuming from where you stopped (kept only in the reader’s browser);
• a double tap on the edge of the frame on a phone — ±10 seconds;
• keyboard: Space or K — pause, ←/→ — 5 seconds, J/L — 10 seconds, M — sound, F — full screen, C — subtitles.

YouTube and Vimeo video plays in their own player, shown through their protected address (youtube-nocookie.com, player.vimeo.com).

Advertising in video

Ads can be shown before the clip, in the middle or after it — they are off by default. How to turn them on and where the clips come from is on the page “Advertising in the video player”.

If it does not work

• There is no “Video” button — the mode without scripts is on or the editor has not loaded yet: type the tag by hand.
• The clip did not appear in the text — check that the tag stands on a line of its own and that the number in [video id=…] exists in “Media”.
• The sound does not play — check that the path starts with /uploads/ and that the file with such a path lies on the site.

One more way: through “Media”

If a file is needed in several posts, or you want to collect a library in advance, upload it in the Media section. From there it is chosen with the “Video” button (“Choose from the library”) or placed with the tag [video id=12] by the number shown in the library.
