Site menu

What the top menu shows, how to rename and reorder items and how to add your own link.

Appearance → Site menu. Every visitor sees this menu on every page.

Module items

Modules put their own sections here themselves: turn on news and it appears in the menu. What to show, what to call it and in which order is up to you. For each item you can:

  • hide or show it;
  • give it your own name instead of the standard one;
  • change its place with a number in the order field;
  • open it in a new tab.

A module item cannot be deleted, only hidden: otherwise it would come back on the first reload of the module. If no module has declared a section yet, the menu is empty.

The add button creates your own link: enter a name and an address. The address is either a page of this site starting with a slash (for example /contacts) or a full external address (https://example.com). Other kinds of address are refused: every visitor sees this menu, and a dangerous link must not be slipped into it. A link can be tied to one language — then only visitors in that language see it. Only your own links can be deleted.

If a page has moved

If an item led to a page whose address has changed, fix the address in the menu or create a redirect from the old address (see the article “Redirects from old addresses”): then old links in search keep working too.
