Content and panel sections
The panel menu is arranged in groups. Which items it has depends on which modules are enabled: a disabled module disappears from the menu together with its items.
| Group | What is in it | What it is for |
|---|---|---|
| Main | Overview, Inbox | what needs attention today |
| Content | Media, Pages, News, Downloads, Gallery, Events, Polls, Forms, Bookings, Site tags and others | what you write and publish |
| Community | Messages from the site, Comments, Forum, Reviews, Reports | what visitors send you |
| Sales | Shop | products, categories, orders, delivery, discounts, order fields |
| Promotion | Banners, Newsletter, Bookmarks, Cookies & analytics | how people find out about you and come back |
| Users & access | Users, Roles, Sessions, Personal data | people and their permissions |
| Site management | Appearance, Settings, SEO & accessibility, Translations | how the site looks and how it is configured |
| System | Modules, Updates, Diagnostics, Integrations, Export and import | service functions |
| Service | Bin | everything deleted, wherever it came from |
Sections you create in the builder go into the “Content” group.
Custom sections
Content → Custom sections (the “Section builder” module). This is where you create sections that are not in the package: vacancies, reviews, properties, services. You describe the fields (a string, a number, a date, a checkbox, a choice from a list, an image, a link) and get a full section: its own table in the database, its own panel section and its own address on the site.
The machine name of a section is set once and never changes: the table name is derived from it, and renaming a table that holds data is not an action to hang on a button.
Extra fields
Content → Extra fields. A field is something an entry does not have out of the box: a film's director, a price, a link to the source, a photo, a file. You create it once and it works where you check it: in news entries (optionally only in chosen categories), in the form for visitors and in other sections that offer their own fields. With no boxes checked, the field does not appear anywhere.
- Click “New field” and choose the kind: string, long text, integer or decimal number, yes/no, date, date with time, list (one option or several), link, email, color, star rating, image, gallery, file, audio, video.
- Give it a label (people see it) and a name for templates (Latin letters; it cannot be changed later, and tags work by it). The kind cannot be changed later either: the values are stored under it.
- For lists, enter the options, one per line. An entry “value|label” stores the value but shows the label:
yes|Yes. - Check where the field works, narrow it to categories if needed; decide who fills it in (staff only or visitors too) and which roles see and fill it in. “Group” gathers fields into one tab of the form.
- Properties: required, show to the reader, in the panel's list of entries, in the card in the feed, filter on the category page (the reader selects entries by value), search by value, value as a link to a selection.
You can turn off a field without erasing its values: it is hidden everywhere and comes back together with its values. Deleting is permanent: you must first turn the field off, then enter its name and your password. Next to each field the panel shows ready-made tags for a theme template: {field:name} (value), {fieldlabel:name} (label), [if:field:name]…[/if] (has a value), [each:field:name]…[/each] (list, gallery). An empty value outputs nothing, not even the label.
Revision history
At the bottom of the edit form of a page, a news item or a section entry there is a list of earlier versions. Any of them can be restored with one button. A rollback is also an edit, so what is current is saved before it: “I rolled back to the wrong one” happens no less often than “I rewrote the wrong thing”.
Bin
Deleted items do not disappear: they go to System → Bin, from where they can be restored. This applies to all modules at once.
