Extra fields

The “Extra fields” section (Content → Extra fields, right settings.manage) is one place for all extra fields of the site: “Year”, “Director”, “Size”, “Colour”, “Gallery photo”. A field is created once and attached with ticks to the places you need: news, forum, shop and other sections that offer their own fields. Profile fields and shop attributes are shown in the same list with a mark and a link to their edit page.

Until a place is ticked, the field does not appear anywhere: no forms, no tags.

If the “Where the field works” block does not list news, the news fields have not been moved to the common ones yet: the field form tells you so and leads, with the “Move the news fields” button, to the “Fields of news posts” block on the list page.

Creating a field

Label	what people see in the form and on the page
Name for templates	Latin letters, digits, `_`; the tags work by it. It cannot be changed after creation
Type	text line, long text, whole number, decimal number, yes/no, date, date and time, choice from a list, several choices, link, email, colour, stars, picture, gallery, file, audio, video link, markup (HTML) — cleaned against an allowlist (scripts, forms and event handlers are removed) and filled in by staff only, video playlist (https links, one per line) and audio playlist (files from “Media”). It cannot be changed after creation: the values depend on it
Maximum length	characters for a line, long text and markup; 0 means the limit of the type. A visitor in a site form sees the same limit (the field will not let them type more), and when it is exceeded they get the answer “No longer than N characters”
Date format	for date fields on the site: `d.m.Y`, `j F Y`… (PHP `date()` characters); empty means the site format
Group	a tab in the edit form
Choices	for the types with a choice, one per line. `value\|label` stores the value and shows the label: `yes\|Yes`
Who fills it in / who sees it	roles separated by commas; empty means everyone (closed fields are seen by staff only)

Where the field works

Each section (host) has a tick and, if the section has categories, a list of categories: the field appears only in the selected ones. Then, for the place: “Show in the visitor form” (if the section accepts material from the site) and “Required here”.

Ticks and what they do

Tags in templates

Every field has a set of tags with a “Copy” button, in the list and on the edit page:

One rule for all paths: an empty value is output nowhere, neither the value nor the label. Closed fields and fields closed by a role do not reach the tags. For choices in the form value|label, the tags output the label.

News fields

News used to have their own fields. In the “Extra fields” section there is a “Fields of news posts” block: its button moves them to the common ones. The order is: first a copy to a file (storage/backups/news-fields-….json), then copying (the old tables stay), then a check of every field (the number of values and a checksum). Only when the check is clean does news switch to the common fields. If a field name is already taken by someone else's field of another type, the moved field gets the name with “_news” — fix the tags in your templates (the report names such fields). “Move back to the old news fields” copies the values back to the old tables and removes the switch. Moving, moving back and deleting a field ask for confirmation in a panel window (with the name of the action and an explanation); without “Confirm” nothing changes. Do the move at a quiet time: posts saved during those seconds will not be moved.

Deleting

A field is first turned off — it is hidden everywhere, the values are kept. Only a turned-off field can be deleted: by typing the field name and your password; the screen shows how many values will be erased. Deleting cannot be undone; the entry stays in the log.

Security

Values are checked against the type and stored as text; everything is escaped on the page, links are only http(s) with rel="nofollow noopener", and pictures and files come only from “Media” by number (private files and archives cannot be put into fields). A visitor fills in only the fields marked “visitors too (site forms)”: a forged field name in the request never reaches the record.
