Filling a cinema site from TMDB

Section: Admin → Custom sections → Autofill. You need the right to edit sections and your own TMDB key in Settings → Custom section settings: the key is free (themoviedb.org), stored encrypted and never shown. Without a key the page says so. For a single card there is filling right in the entry editor, described on the cinema page.

What is taken and what is not

Only metadata from the official TMDB API (title, description, year, rating, poster) and a link to the trailer. No videos or players from other sites are added, and no sites are “parsed”. The data belongs to TMDB: the page credits the source.

Steps

1. Choose the section, the list (now in cinemas, upcoming, popular and best films and series, trending of the week or “by year, genre, country”), the language of the descriptions and press “Show”. Nothing is added yet.
2. Tick the films. Those already in the section are marked “already added” and skipped; what lies in the bin, restore first.
3. Choose “Add as”: a draft (recommended: visitors do not see the entry until you check it) or published at once; what the entry’s address is built from; whether to add the trailer and whether to copy the posters to “Media” (up to 8 at a time, credited to TMDB).
4. Press “Add selected”: no more than 20 at a time. The result is shown as a report and kept in the autofill log.

The log and the ratings

The autofill log keeps when, by whom and what was added, skipped or failed, and why. The setting “Refresh TMDB ratings of imported entries” (off) refreshes the fields rating_tmdb and votes_tmdb once an hour for entries added this way.

Limits

One import at a time and no more than 20 films at once; no more than 120 requests a minute to TMDB per site. Above that, the site asks you to repeat in a minute.
